Men Wear Jewelry: Do They Wear Pearls?

Men Wear Jewelry: Do They Wear Pearls?

When we think about men’s jewelry, we often picture masculine leather bracelets, gold wedding bands, school or championship rings, and bold signet rings. In today’s modern fashion world, men’s jewelry has expanded far beyond tradition—skull silver rings, chunky silver or gold chains, layered necklaces, and statement earrings are everywhere.

But how often do we really see men wearing pearl jewelry?

Why is that? Are pearls only for women—fair ladies, classic beauty, or family heirlooms passed down through generations?

A Personal Story from My Art Fair Booth

In my 20+ years of art fair business, most of my customers have been women. Occasionally, a man will stop by and ask if I carry men’s jewelry—usually looking for a ring.

But years ago, something unforgettable happened. A young man came to my booth and tried on a white pearl necklace. He loved it—and bought it for himself.

The next year, he came back and did the same thing again, choosing another pearl necklace. To this day, he remains the only male customer who has purchased a classic pearl necklace for himself, not as a gift, but as a personal statement.

That moment changed how I see pearls and men’s jewelry forever.

The Meaning of Pearls Across Cultures

In ancient Asian culture, pearls symbolize health, wealth, and long-lasting love. They are the June birthstone and the gemstone for the 30th wedding anniversary.

In Western history, white pearls represent purity, love, and elegance.

In Chinese culture, pearls are considered living gemstones. It is believed that the pearl and the wearer nurture each other:

  • The body nourishes the pearl, making it more luminous and alive
  • The pearl, in return, shares its energy, bringing balance and vitality

This is why pearls are seen as both soft like water and strong like stone—gentle yet powerful, refined yet enduring.

Pearls Are No Longer Just for Women

Today, pearls are no longer limited by gender.

More and more men—celebrities and everyday style leaders alike—are embracing pearls as a symbol of individuality and confidence. For men, pearl jewelry often features:

  • Larger sizes
  • Darker or natural colors
  • Baroque or organic shapes

Paired with a leather jacket, sports blazer, or even a hoodie, pearl jewelry creates a bold, modern contrast that feels effortless and chic.

Pearls give men a unique edge—fashion-forward, personal, and timeless all at once.

Pearls, Astrology, and Personal Connection

In astrology, water signs such as Cancer, Aquarius, and Pisces are often said to be especially drawn to pearls.

My husband, Markp, is a Cancer. He loves water—oceans, lakes, and rivers—and always feels most alive by the shore. I’ve made countless pieces of jewelry for my customers, yet I’ve never made a pearl piece for him.

Maybe now is the time.

A pearl, as a gift of love and good fortune, feels like the perfect way to honor both tradition and modern style.
